Abstract: 

The ELECTROACTIVE polyaniline at high pH was electrochemically synthesized in a solution containing 0.2 mol.dm-3 aniline and IONIC LIQUID, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium- ethyl sulphate (EMIES). The cyclic voltammograms of the polyaniline were performed in 1.0 mol.dm-3 KCl in a range of pH from 8.0 to 12.0 between 0.0 and 1.2 V at 60 mV.s-1. The results indicated only 14.4% decay of the electrochemical activity when the polyaniline was moved from pH 8.0 to 10.0. The polyaniline still retains good electrochemical activity at pH 12.0. The results of UV-visible and FTIR spectrum reveal that the framework of polyaniline synthesized in EMIES is similar to that of polyaniline synthesized in HCl. The thermal behaviour of the polyaniline prepared in EMIES shows a three-step weight loss process, they are at about 100ºC, 200- 300ºC and over 350ºC, respectively. The conductivity of polyaniline synthesized in EMIES is 0.011 S.cm-1. After immersion of polyaniline into 1.0 mol.dm-3 HCl or 1.0 mol.dm-3 KCl for one hour, its conductivity enhances to 0.53 or 0.052 S.cm-1, respectively. Based on the results of osmometry, the average molecular weight of the polyaniline is about 4.97×104. The polyaniline can be dissolved in DMF and other common organic solvents but little in water, which is very favourable to structural analysis and applications of polyaniline.

Abstract: 

IONIC STRUCTURE AND CONDUCTIVITY, TUNABLE HYDROPHOBICITY AND VERY LOW VOLATILITY ARE THE PROPERTIES OF ROOM TEMPERATURE IONIC LIQUIDS (RTIL) THAT MAKE THEM ATTRACTIVE FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL APPLICATIONS. 1 BUT THE SLOW MASS TRANSFER IS KNOWN AS THEIR DISADVANTAGE. IN THIS RESPECT, IMMOBILIZATION OF RTIL ON THE ELECTRODE SURFACE REPRESENTS A SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE APPROACH. HEREIN, A MODIFIED ELECTRODE WITH ORDERED MESOPOROUS SILICA THIN FILM HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED FOR IMMOBILIZATION OF IONIC LIQUIDS. THE DESIRED SILICA NANOSTRUCTURE WAS DEPOSITED ON THE ELECTRODE USING AN ELECTROCHEMICAL ETHOD KNOWN AS ELECTROCHEMICALLY ASSISTED SELF-ASSEMBLY. 2 TEM ANALYSIS SHOWED THAT THE DESIRED SILICA FILM HAS UNIFORM THICKNESS WITH ALIGNED AND ACCESSIBLE MESOCHANNELS TO THE ELECTRODE SURFACE. THE POSSIBILITY OF THE IMMOBILIZATION OF 1-HEXYL-3-METHYLIMIDAZOLIUM IODIDE AND 1-HEXYL-3-METHYLIMIDAZOLIUM TRIIODIDE AS TWO IONIC LIQUIDS BEARING ELECTROACTIVE ANIONS HAVE BEEN STUDIED BY VOLTAMMETRIC ANALYSIS. THE RESULTS CLEARLY DEMONSTRATE THE ADSORPTION OF POSITIVELY CHARGED IMIDAZOLIUM IONS INSIDE THE NEGATIVELY CHARGED SILICA MESOCHANNELS. THIS FAVORABLE ELECTROSTATIC INTERACTION SIMPLY LEADS TO THE ADSORPTION OF IODIDE OR TRIIODIDE AND THEN IMMOBILIZATION OF THE DESIRED ELECTROACTIVE IONIC LIQUIDS. EFFECT OF THE SUPPORTING ELECTROLYTE AND THE ANIONS OF IONIC LIQUIDS WERE EXAMINED ON DURABILITY AND LEACHING STABILITY OF THE ELECTRODES. THE TRIIODIE BASED IONIC LIQUID HAS EXTRAORDINARY STABILITY IN THE PRESENCE OF VARIOUS TYPES AND CONCENTRATIONS OF SUPPORTING ELECTROLYTES AND AFTER 5 HOURS THE ELECTRODE SHOWED MORE THAN 30% OF THE INITIAL CURRENTS.

Abstract: 

These days IONIC LIQUIDs (ILs) are getting more attention and catching more eyes based on numerous advantages they can offer, including low volatility, excellent thermal and chemical stability, easy handling, remarkable conductivity, and facile design. These astonishing materials are formed via asymmetric cations and anions. They can mainly be found in a LIQUID state where temperatures are below 100 °C. Therefore, due to their unique features, they can be considered a perfect and desirable candidate in several fields, including electrochemical biosensors and detecting agents, they can play their roles as electrolytes. These unique features prompted us to present a precise and short review of the different fabrication methods of IONIC LIQUIDs. Herein, after a laconic description of ILs, a diverse range of fabrication methods was investigated, and a succinct description was given in each approach. Furthermore, where needed, some clear illustrations were used to boost apprehend. Perspectives, remarks, and challenges of different fabrication methods have been given, respectively.

Abstract: 

Micro-ELECTROACTIVE polymers have wide applications from industry to healthcare. Artificial muscles, microvalves, microswitches, haptic sensing, blood pressure and pulse monitoring are some potential applications for micro-ELECTROACTIVE polymers. The most advantage of micro-ELECTROACTIVE polymers as sensors and actuators is bio-compatibility and low power threshold for large deformations. In this short review, some applicable fabrication methods of micro-ELECTROACTIVE polymer cantilever are reviewed. Furthermore, a novel method based on standard micro fabrication techniques is designed and discussed in details which presents a conceptual design of a micro-ELECTROACTIVE polymer cantilever on a polymeric anchor located on a silicon substrate for future works.
